The 7th Sense- event of reality ...

wow... the name 7thsense... will only bring to my mind the days we, the cse students established our reign over the mighty tall building ... the hitech block... though there were many depts in this block... it became ours after this event... nobody cud have ever utilised this prominent structure of srm much better than we did....srm noticed cse to be the forerunner after all efforts and struggle and pain we took ...i indeed realised that day " true efforts are always paid off heavily"....

the preparations for this mega event started under the leadership of mr.harish (2005-06) when we decided wat had to be done .... initially the symposium hosted by cse dept was named innovate... and we wanted that to be changed... and so new names were flying here and there over the discussion table which ofcourse had the 4 of us amongst few other seniors and my own batchmates.... finally the congress of executives decided to have the name ... "THE 7th SENSE - the sense of computing" to be the title of this grandeurs of symposiums ... we were all excited and quick in our thoughts ... under the presidency of our beloved Sridhar sir ... the team was formed...

the association members were the top level organisers with about 100 organisers from the dept forming the entire team... ideas poured in for the events... frequent meetings almost daily were held .... we used to discuss discuss discuss and always discuss... i was the joint secretary then ,but the proud name that i got from my team was.. "THE OFFICIAL STENO" .. u wont believe i wud have typed atleast around some 100-150 letters seeking permissions for this and that .. my goodness i never knew i had such patience.... prasanth was quite brisk in taking care of works that had to be done out of the campus... including posters, banners and wat not... chandru was the lead in almost everything... sajith played the most important role of getting the permissions from various officials ... balaji sir was the driving force and the time keeper.... scheduling was his best job ... sridhar sir the elegant hod ... wud accept wat ever we did ... praveen and shiva assisted the working force with their ideas... and ofcourse shiva was the most influencial and praveen came out successful winning the apache bike as a sponsor....

in this article i will miss my duty if i don mention abt the chief designer of cse... Mr.Vishwaanth... wat a contribution he had for this event.... my goodness ... he never had the attitude that he was senior to us... we used to call him by all names ... with patience he completed the design work of posters banners pamphlets and wat not.... the king of photoshop... the jack of all designs and graphics..... day and night he worked towards completing the designs at its best.....

days neared the event... it was planned to be held on oct 6th and 7th.... so much of preparation were going around... heaps of thermocol and bunches of charts watever were all over the dept library .... jasmine, preethi, raji, poornima, sundari and many more crushed their creative ideas to bring out colorful stuffs to decorate... oct 2nd being gandhi jayanthi was a national hold ... but just imagine the dedication we guys had .... we came to college on that day .... from 10 to evening 5 we all worked hard to complete this decoration work.....

it was all going well until few things happened within my class.... since the day 1 we started this preparation for 7thsense i cudn attend the class as my presence in the meeting was necessary... so staffs who were handling subjects in my class were not that happy with wat i was doing... especially the maths teacher... i held a very good record in my engineering maths until this .......(dash) of a lady came.... she belongs to the maths dept ... and a so called useless Asst.Prof... ppl i tell u .... staffs in cse dept are the best compared to staffs from any other dept of srm .... this is true and i challenge students of other depts if they can prove me wrong in this...
the end result .. my sem results were bad ... for the first time in 6 semesters my grade in maths dropped down to "d" from "s" .... i applied for reval ... since it is srm .... i dint get any change in my grades .... so this was the only hurting experience i had ... i learnt that we need to give importance to those who give us a lil trouble cos of this incident....

days passed ... the team enjoyed a lot and we friends grew thick .... i had just started to taste the sweetness of good friendship.... a couple of weeks before the event.... prasanth came to college at around 12.00noon with a big canvas sheet neatly folded and tied.... we took that to the roof of hitech... an area which was usually prohibited...this canvas was nothing other than the 80X30 banner that was supposed to be hung from the top of hitech.... my goodness after college hours we stayed back and we hung that up with great strain and power..... sam and his friends ... jana anna and satish were among those guys who helped us out....

being a top level organiser doesn mean that u'r work gets done when u step out of the meeting table... its something more than that guys need to realise... its a feel of responsibility that u take it on u'r shoulders and tell u'rself ... "yes am here to do watever i can do ..." this in specific is for my beloved jnrs who are just trying their best to bring up the second edition of 7thsense... we used to work late nights.... of the 4 of us ... no one was a hosteler... we all stayed very far from the college ... even then we used to stay back around till 6 in the evening .... most of all ... the secret behind the success was the unity we had .... so much difference in our thoughts but still we stayed together.... till date prasanth and myself use to fight for wat not .... but still we have been the best pick ....

it was tuesday oct 3rd .... we were onto the final preparations... posters and letters dispatched to some 1000 colleges across the nation and infact we personally went to invite a few.... the incident i remember still was that day after the meeting was over... one guy was waiting outside the library... i noticed him long back and he was not from srm ... so when i approached him he said that i am so and so and am from iit kharagpur.. and he wanted to advertise amongst srm students , a symposium they were hosting later in the year... i accepted his request and asked him to attend the 7thsense where he cud advertise for wat he came... this seemed to me as though going in for a bigger deal .... ok putting that aside... we were all closing inn for the day ...

it was thursday the 5th evening ... decorative materials were all over the portico of hitech ... full credits to the gals of my dept... and ofcourse my friends who assisted that day in putting these all around the campus... we had brought in huge amt of sponsors and for that we had to arrange for putting up stalls inside the campus... we were waiting for tat guy to come and he reached college around 8 in the night.... the brand new apache bike was put to display n the main meeting junctions of collge.... the highlight was praveen had even got permission to arrange for a test drive of the vehicle in the nearby service road of the campus.....

prasanth came in with the backdrops we had given for printing... the most horrible part of this was that there was a spelling mistake in the banner.... the word "national" had a spelling mistake.... sridhar sir was disappointed and wanted that to be changed.... prasanth got frustrated and we dint have a choice... that was the first day i had so much to do in college.... from morning around 7 till midnight i was working with these guys... prasanth and myself took those banners to tambaram to make the corrections.... it was the time when the local body elections were going on ... all the printers were busy printing stupid banners and posters for the useless politicians... we dint have a choice other than giving it to that guy and asking it to be done by 6thmorning... sajith who lived nearby generously accepted to bring them to college the next day ....that night was the worst i had ... prasanth was exhausted and dint have any energy to drive the vehicle ... we were approx 18kms from college... by the time we finished the deal at the printers it was 10... we entered a hotel which was abt to be shut ... pushed in something that the server brought .... and rushed back to college... we used shiva's two wheeler... the night traffic and the way prasanth drove the vehicle was the worst nightmare i have had so far.... we had purchased few decorative color papers ... to have a contact i called up anuroop my batchmate in the hostel and asked him to bring some 10 volunteers to decorate the papers next day morning.... by the time prasanth and myself reached college it was 11.30 ... i went to the hostel and stayed there in ganesh kumar sir's room....

next day morning with lots of thoughts running in mind i woke up with a shock .... after we reached college the previous night it had rained heavily and so all the chart papers hung out in the campus were spoiled... the windy rain had brought down some 5 shamiana's that were put up ... i was at the peak of my tension... rung up that guy and asked him to do the repair work asap ...
by the time i reached hitech from the hostel i was even more surprised to see around 100 cse students all in the new 7thsense tshirts gazing at the block... my dear friend anuroop had brought in these guys for the decoration work... i asked him for 10 but he brought in 100 ... amazing chap right!!!.....

we had organised a rock show during the eve of 6th as a part of the symposium ... and the funniest part of this was the way praveen got the permission from the mgmt.... he quoted this event to be a technical rockshow .... prasanth contributed almost watever he cud.... sam and prasanth negotiated with the rock band , the guys who were to put the stage ... the audio engineers and wat not ... for this rockshow we issued tickets.. and the way the tickets were sold was one of the better things the team did.... 1 booklet had 100 tickets ... each priced at 100 rs... so the guy who wanted to sell tickets wud give us 10k and take away 1 booklet.. now its up to his talents to sell the tickets to earn profit... the days events progressed far better than wat we had expected.... we had aimed at around 700 to participate but the kind of publicity we did resulted in a whooping 1300 participants and the most important fact was that we dint allow srm students to participate so the turned up crowd was completely from other colleges..... we even charged a small amt for reg... my goodness wat a collection it was.... the rockshow was abt to start at 7... entry was at 6.30 ... but due to delay in preparations entry was at 7.30 and u wont believe that the crowd for the rockshow was a long waiting crowd upto the enterance gate from the openair theatre.... we had engaged bouncers... a term and profession i heard for the first time in life.... mighty huge giant men capable of managing huge crowds were deployed at the gate ... we had tough time at the entry ... words cant describe them ....

the whole event kept srm on its feet ... guys from other depts were the ones most interested to know what was happening around ... ncc cadets helped us out in maintaining the decorum in the venue... hats off to those guys... poor guy prasanth cudn bear the heat of the events... and got hospitalised during the day and came back in the evening for the event... we all celebrated this as though it was our own homely function.... we had purchased new dresses for the event... and cameras flashing all around.... ppl i am sure i wont get those days back .....

the climax of 7thsense was even more entertaining .... we had 2 rounds of tie breakers to decide the winner of the event.... vijay daniel from ssn grabbed the apache at the end... the comments from the participants, marked the success of each and everyone of us.... one guy from ssn told that evening that " i have attended many competitions, even been to iit's but here at srm i have enjoyed the most .... u ppl ( we the organisers) have made this far better than wat the iitians do " ..... these words ringed the bells for us... it was spring all of a sudden... balaji sir was given the full credits for the success... sabha sir and labbai sir joined the party of leaders... sridhar sir was a happy man .... the event came to a very happy end... the first edition of 7th sense came to an end on 7th aug 07.... it was the 7th day of the month .... hmmm ...... to celebrate the enjoyment ... chandru, prasanth, sajith, myself, praveen, shiva, saravanan, vishwaanth, and the staffs we all went to vasantha bhavan, tambaram for a treat sponsored by sridhar sir.and co....
