this day ... last year in 2007 ... i got placed in tcs..... in no time one year has passed by ... and thus i have also completed my graduation ... thinking of those days i struggled during the placements brings in a feel of satisfaction and pride in wat i have done so far.... i need to give a long description abt this day last year ....
jul 2nd 2007....5.30pm: the day when tcs had come to college after a considerable gap due to some issues with the mgmt of srm and tcs... it was all exciting for us that day as we were sitting in the huge audi of srm ..... a vp from tcs along with mr.dinesh hrexecutive tcs came to our college for the pre-placement talk .... they came late bcuz they were having recruitment process going on at the nearby cresent engg college.... they started off their talk with a short movie abt taj .... and it went on for some 30 mins.... then it was a detailed session abt wat tcs was expecting from us during the course of recruitment and equally the students side also had few questions....
jul 3rd 2007... 8.00 am: aptitude papers, barons and wat not .... i had these books and papers all around me... most of the time i was going thru aptitude questions and i was quite sure that it wud be waste of time preparing verbal section.... the air around me was stinking with formulas and equations and critical reasoning questions.... preethi and raji were well versed in solving the tough part ... the critical reasoning ones... including all my friends and myself were trained in this section by these two gals.... around 9:00am we were all called for the exam... the exam was to be held in the hitech computer lab ... one of the most familiar places for me in college.... the test and its instructions were complicated as we had to take up them online.... the test went on fine... with me and prasanth sitting next to each other.... when i started with the verbal section ... prasanth and myself got the same question and he was waiting for me to answer that one... but even i was in a state not knowing wat to answer... the word seemed to be a weird one to me... and so this section passed with time as i answered the questions with random guesses... the next section the aptitude one was interesting ... the questions were lot familiar and it was a cake walk for me to cross this one... prasanth was in a rapid speed of completing this section much before i did and was into the last section ..... this last section is the most important and tough one of all ... the critical reasoning section ... i was forced to do some calculations in this one to answer the mcq's.
tension and pressure was rising faster in my nerves... i was so tensed and had almost lost confidence that my performance was poor and i wud surely not get thru in this... at once i clicked the exit button after answering all the questions.... until the result got displayed i was at peak of my tension.... thank god... somehow i got a positive result... and the invigilator in my lab handed me with an application form which i had to get for the interview....all my friends got thru this round except raji....
jul 4th 2007....8.00 am: i have never seen my college mates look like that...it was like entering into a place of pure professionalism.... formal shirts,trousers,ties and shoes shining like never before... gals dressed up so neatly ... hardly that happens in colleges.... it was so good... and it was the second time in my life i wore a tie... i was waiting in the canteen along with my friends and by around 9 we moved into the audi though none of my friends were interested to come there.... at around 10 we were called to the front near the stage and made to sit according to a list the placement cell had prepared.... it was 1.00pm when i was called for the interview.... there were 2 different types of interview panel ... 1 was the senior panel waiting to screw the candidate... there were only 2 members in it ... and the second one was the junior panel consisting of 3 hr ppl.... i luckily went to a jnr panel..i was feeling a lot better now... they asked me questions from dbms,os etc etc... and few hr questions and i was done within halfanhour... but after coming out heard strange situtations where candidates were screwed for more than 1 hr and one case where the candidate was not asked any question.....
jul 5th 2007...3.00pm..... the previous day's interview continued ... around 1100 students had cleared the initial round .... and so the interview process had spread across 2 days .... we finished the interview the first day itself and we were told that the results wud be out the next day i.e today by around 6.... but we were so eager,tensed and excited and i along with my friends started around 3 and reached college by 4.30 ..... the interview process was still going on when we reached ... i told my friends that it wud take min of 3 hrs for them to finalise on the total intake after the interview got over.... and by the time the last candidate was interviewed it was 6 i believe.... so we were quite sure that it was going to be late night by the time the results were annoucned.... to entertain us in the audi .. college management was too generous to screen the movie " the mummy returns" .... imagine just that situation.... the movie all in all a thriller and action packed one... was off the worst trouble we got at that moment... i along with my whole gang of friends were sitting to the left corner of the audi .... it was 8 and 9 and still we dint get info reg the results.... top officials ... vice chancellor, pro-vc and placement officer were among those in the meeting with the dinesh and the vice president.... the students in the audi got frustrated and we all moved out and were sitting in the entrance steps.... prasanth and myself took a two wheeler from a friend and went to the nearby hospital canteen to buy something to eat... we were waiting till 10.15 outside the audi .... suddenly guys outside started to rush back into the audi .... we knew that it was time then ,..... dinesh came up to the podium and happily announced that we were amongst the top 3 partners for tcs this year.... first being anna univ... second vit and third srm ... tcs had selected 538 students out of the 1100++ cleared .... it was like some hard nuts cracked on our heads..... one good female rep from tcs voluntarily came up to read the names of those selected.....
I WAS IN ... I WAS THE 5th NAME TO BE CALLED FROM THE CS DEPARTMENT....... today is jul 5th 2008.... its been a year since i got placed in tcs....
